Every New Year I like to choose a “New Word” to represent what I want to strive for more of in that upcoming year. New year – new word. Currently, my word is “Authenticity”.
At a time when we are all consumed by social media and other people’s lives at our fingertips, it’s easy to be convinced that we don’t “measure up” or that we are “doing less” or that we are “less than” everyone else.
In “The Message”, Galatians 6:4-5 says: “Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.”
Wait……. did you catch that?! So we are NOT supposed to compare ourselves with others?? According to these verses, we’re supposed to figure out who WE are and sink ourselves into THAT. This is where our “best creative self” will come to life – I don’t know about you, but I love that phrase: “best creative self”!
Comparison robs you of creativity and the energy you need to live your best life. So stop trying to be someone you were NOT created to be. You are only fully equipped to be exactly who YOU were made to be. So dig in, figure out who YOU are, and live your life to the fullest! Stepping into who you were designed and equipped to be will literally make you “come to life”.
AUTHENTICITY – try it on!
