When I saw this picture, I just had to laugh because it seemed to depict exactly how I feel, constantly battling and fighting my urges for carbs, chips, popcorn, candy and desserts! After turning 50 about a year and a half ago, I would always jokingly but seriously tell my friends, “Whew, I’m never doing that again!!” Not to sound all gloom and doom, it’s just that realistically speaking, 50 did not feel so fabulous to me personally. I could no longer get away with eating all my favorite naughty foods. My metabolism seemed to have disappeared, and it took my energy with it (how rude)!

I quickly learned that I needed to shift my mindset and be determined to live a healthy lifestyle on a daily basis. Unhealthy carbs were now my frenemies, and lean protein and greens were my new best friends! You have to stay active in some way every day, and there are so many great options to do that — everything from walking and jogging to yoga and pilates to working out in a gym! Prep healthy meals and snacks the day before or at least pre-think them out and be proactive in fighting off those urges for carbs and candy. Be calculated about what you’re eating and drinking so that all your good deeds won’t turn to mush. Lots of H2O is key. And it’s okay to reward yourself here and there so that you don’t go off the deep end!

No matter what your age is, just keep doing your best to eat healthy and stay active every single day. The implications of all these little healthy daily habits will eventually go a long way and offer you back energy, vitality, and longevity to carry you through your “second act” of life!
